Božinović: Pressure of illegal migrants on Croatia’s border slashed by 60%

ZAGREB, 29 May (Hina) – The Minister of the Interior, Davor Božinović, stated on Thursday that this year the pressure of illegal migrants on Croatia’s borders has been reduced by more than 60%, and that this trend is expected to continue, attributing the reduction to the efforts of police officers.

“The Ministry of the Interior will continue to strengthen the border and adapt tactical and operational procedures. We won’t speak publicly about this, but those who challenge us in that regard know exactly what we mean,” Božinović said during the Open Day and Sports Day at the Police Academy in Zagreb.

Božinović also addressed the indictments against senior Croatian war commanders, which have once again come from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The message from this government is that all relevant institutions are committed to protecting the dignity of Croatian war veterans, as well as the national interests of Croatia. In that regard, there is no need for concern. Today, we’re seeing some developments that differ slightly from what may have been communicated the day before,” he emphasised.

When asked about concrete steps the government is taking, Božinović said that discussions are ongoing, but added that “certain matters cannot be communicated publicly.”
