On last year’s “Black Friday,” which fell on 29 November, 5,043,350 receipts were issued, with a total value of €101.3 million.

Data from the Tax Administration also show that during this year’s Black Friday week, from 24 to 28 November, a total of 22,916,259 receipts were issued in retail trade — excluding the sale of motor vehicles and motorcycles — with total sales reaching €435.1 million.

On an annual basis, compared with last year’s Black Friday week, the number of receipts issued this year fell by 0.87%, while the total value of sales rose by 8.17%.

Black Friday is the colloquial name for the Friday following Thanksgiving in the United States, marking the start of the pre-Christmas shopping season. This tradition, characterised by store discounts, has spread worldwide, with sales and promotional offers often extending over more than just a single day.
