SARAJEVO, May 8 (FENA) – The Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia (NUNS) and the BH Journalists Association have sent a letter to the World Press Photo Foundation requesting the withdrawal of the Spot News award from 1993, granted to photographer Bojan Stojanović, citing serious ethical concerns based on newly published findings regarding the circumstances under which the photographs of the execution of civilians Husein Kršo and Hajrudin Muzurović in Brčko in 1992 were taken.

In a letter sent to the Foundation’s leadership on April 27, 2026, NUNS and BH Journalists also requested a formal apology to the family of Husein Kršo, the publication of a correction, and a public statement outlining the steps that will be taken to ensure full respect for the organization’s ethical guidelines, the BH Journalists Association said.

The reason for addressing the World Press Photo Foundation is an award-winning investigative article by journalist Barbara Matejčić titled “Killing for a Photograph,” published in May 2025 on the BIRN website and the Novosti portal.

In the article, Matejčić cites war photographers and war crimes investigators and, through an analysis of proximity, lens choice, and a series of captured frames, as well as the fact that Bojan Stojanović changed his account of the event over the years, sheds a completely different light on the circumstances surrounding the creation of the award-winning photograph.
