Berati, a fantastic meeting point for adventure sports

Berat, the 2,400-year-old city inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2008, has a lot to offer tourists.

Beyond enjoying the museum part, Berat has also become a fantastic meeting point for adventure sports experiences.

Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro shared in the social media a film material that shows some of the most beautiful and exciting experiences of the local and foreign visitors to the city of Berat.

“From kayak tours in Qafë Dardha lake, to mule hiking in Tomori Castle, access to these destinations thanks to investments in infrastructure and great ideas of corageous people in the tourism industry, have multiplied the touristic map of Berat in a few years”, wrote Kumbaro.

Berat offers a lot to its guests, both to those who want to spend active holidays and to those who choose the tranquility of museums, churches and medieval mosques. In the ancient times, Berat was called Antipatrea and is believed to have been founded in 314 BC. Based on the ceramic remains of the archaeological excavations, it is assumed that it was inhabited by the Illyrian population belonging to the tribe of Dasarets. Antipatrea was built in an important strategic location, on top of a hill dominating the mouth of the Osum River.

During the excavations carried out in the Berat Castle area, there were discovered some parts of the ancient city wall built in the 4th century BC and there was also identified the city gate of that period.
