Becic: Montenegro recognizes hybrid threats as one of biggest security challenges

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro recognizes hybrid threats as one of the biggest security challenges of the modern era, which is why the Bureau for Operational Coordination has proposed that the fight against hybrid operations be defined as one of the national priorities, said Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Becic.

Becic made this remark during a meeting with NATO Assistant Secretary General for Intelligence and Security Scott Bray, who is on an official visit to Montenegro.

The Government stated that Becic noted that Bray’s visit was a continuation of the intensive dialogue that Montenegro has had with the NATO leadership in recent months.

Speaking about internal reforms, Becic emphasized that the political stability and strong parliamentary support that this government has had since the beginning of its mandate is the foundation for the implementation of reforms.

He pointed out that Montenegro recognizes hybrid threats as one of the biggest security challenges of the modern era, which is why the Bureau for Operational Coordination, chaired by him, proposed that the fight against hybrid activity be defined as one of the national priorities.

It is reported that Bray congratulated Montenegro on successful implementation of reforms in the intelligence and security sector, the vetting process and the organization of the EU-Western Balkan Summit, assessing that the Alliance recognizes Montenegro’s key role in the region and values its contribution to collective security.

“When you are successful, you become a target”, said Bray, adding that the progress Montenegro has made reforms, as well as European and NATO integration explain the intensity of destabilization attempts, expressing belief that the Alliance would continue to provide strong support to Montenegro in addressing modern security challenges.
