AI use rises in Croatia, ChatGPT most popular tool

ZAGREB, 23 Sept (Hina) – Awareness and use of artificial intelligence are growing in Croatia, with ChatGPT the most widely used platform, according to a national AI survey presented on Tuesday.

Тhe study, conducted for the third consecutive year by Algebra Bernays University in collaboration with Prizma on a sample of 2,500 Croatian citizens, found that all respondents had heard of AI, up from 90% in 2023. AI use rose to 47% from 24% last year, while use of specific AI tools increased to 54% from 35%.

Data science expert Robert Kopal noted that, for the first time, citizens believe AI risks outweigh opportunities.

Most users (74%) employ AI to gather hard-to-access information, with translation and text generation ranking second and third.

Kopal said this differs from global trends, where AI is more often used for therapy and social interaction.

The survey also showed a decline in negative perceptions of AI and a rise in positive attitudes. Knowledge of EU AI regulations remains at just 3% of respondents. Many still fear job losses due to AI, with only 13% expecting it to create new jobs.

Presenters welcomed the planned development of a national AI action plan.
