Agreement with Italy on immigrants, Hasani: Ratification in parliament after Constitutional Court decision is transcribed

TIRANA, Feb  6 /ATA/ Minister of Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, said on Tuesday that regarding the agreement with Italy Albania will proceed with the legal steps stipulated in the legislation, once the Constitutional Court decision is transcribed.

At a press conference from Rome, where the agreement on the recognition of social insurance contributions between the two countries was signed today, Minister Hasani announced that the discussion with his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani, also focused on the agreement on immigrants.

“Minister Tajani and I discussed a broad range of current affairs, including the other agreement in hand. After the decision of the Constitutional Court, we will proceed with the next steps. We are waiting for the CC to transcribe the decision  so that we can proceed with the ratification in the Parliament of Albania,” said Minister Hasani.

The minister assured that the Albanian structures are ready and will keep pace with the Italian side, which is also in the process of approving this agreement.

Hasani also added that in the meeting with the Italian minister, Tajani discussed the developments in the region, as well as the European integration of our country.

“Today’s conversation touched on important issues related not only to bilateral relations, but also to issues in the region. The Western Balkans was one of the items discussed at length with both countries keeping track of the developments in the WB. “Undoubtedly, Albania’s path towards the EU is the other reason we are here today,” he said.

Albania and Italy signed an agreement in November of last year on the establishment of a reception center in Lezha for immigrants who will land on Italian shores.
