Bucharest, Dec 10 /Agerpres/ – The National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics (ICI Bucharest) and the AGERPRES National News Agency, in partnership with the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization (MCID), announced on Tuesday the launch of the second stage of the “AI – Agerpres News” app project, an approach which marks the expansion of the use of artificial intelligence in regional news flows.
With the support of the Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitalization, Bogdan Gruia Ivan, the project, which in the first stage laid the foundations for a national flow of news validated with the help of AI, is currently expanding through regional partnerships for pilot projects in three counties, with the aim to support local journalism through advanced solutions that ensure relevant information adapted to the needs of local communities.
The app uses artificial intelligence algorithms for the analysis and distribution of verified information, having an essential role in combating disinformation and strengthening the public’s trust in quality journalism.
Adrian-Victor Vevera, general director of ICI Bucharest, emphasized that through this project one wishes to make available to the public as many sources of information as possible, “which should be validated, which promote objective and impartial news, so that the information is the result of the analysis of correct news, not fake news”.
“We want to expand this application as a personal assistant, so that information related to traffic, train running, weather, sports area can be selected. Depending on the area of interest, the national news flow of AGERPRES can be added, together with the local news, made available by the county councils and the large town halls and, of course, the other generators of news”, Adrian-Victor Vevera said.
For her part, Claudia-Victoria Nicolae, Director General of AGERPRES, stated: “As we could observe, especially in the last weeks, the information hazard somehow exceeds the objectivity of a news story. It is not enough to address to a media audience that consumes agency news, but you have to expand to the ordinary public, who, nowadays, is looking for the channel to inform them. We have reached the situation in which citizens do not trust the information and try to filter it themselves, and the search range is quite large. The expansion to the regional level, in fact, came as a necessity of the information customization”.
The “AI – Agerpres News” app, which uses Artificial Intelligence to deliver quality news, was launched on November 15. The project aims to guarantee the authenticity and origin of information, promoting quality journalism and protecting the public from the risks of disinformation, by integrating blockchain technology and non-fungible tokens (NFT).
The new app “AI – Agerpres News” completes another pilot project, “Agerpres Daily News | Hold History”, which was previously developed, and which demonstrated the potential of advanced technologies in combating disinformation and promoting quality journalism.
