TIRANA, March 31/ATA/ The team of surgeons at the “Mother Teresa” University Hospital Center successfully performed a special operation in a pediatric case for the first time in Albania.
Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu highlighted in a post in the social media that, “Under the direction of Prof. Dritan Alushani, a 4-year-old boy underwent a special operation that is performed for the first time in a pediatric case in Albania. Thanks to this operation, the child has the opportunity for the urinary tract to function normally without having to be constantly catheterized. The child’s condition is very good and is functioning normally”, emphasized Koçiu.
The minister appreciated this an important achievement for Albanian medicine, congratulating the medical team composed of Dr. Dritan Alushani, Dr. Amarold Balliu, Dr. Aulona Haxhirexha, Dr. Labeat Haxhirexha and the ward and service nurses.
In the video published by the minister, the boy’s family members reported that the little boy had problems with urination since he was 5 months old.
“There were performed several unsuccessful operations, even in Turkey”, said one family member. “It is an operation performed for the first time, it is a rare intervention, perhaps even in the world. The idea is that in this way, by enlarging the bladder, with the ureter, it gives him the opportunity to urinate on his own, without having to be helped with catheterization for the rest of his life”, said doctor Aliu.
