Skopje, 18 August 2026 (MIA) — Bulgarian, Croatian, Irish, Macedonian, Montenegrin, Romanian and Serbian poets will attend this year’s Poetry Night in Velestovo festival, which begins Friday, organizers said.

Now in its 38th year, the festival will present several poetry readings in the village of Velestovo and in Ohrid.

Friday’s short concert by Ivan Hristov and Petar Chuhov from Bulgaria will open the festival, followed by a reading and a conversation with Jovica Ivanovski. Later Friday, poets from Bulgaria, Croatia, Ireland, Montenegro, Romania and Serbia will read their poems before the opening of an exhibition of watercolors by Ivana Nastevski.

Slave Gjorgjo Dimoski’s translations of poetry books by Montenegrin poet Pavle Goranovic and Croatian poet Tomica Bajsic will be launched Saturday at Ohrid’s Lapidarium. The book launch will be followed by an international poetry reading at 9 pm.

The festival will end Sunday, with readings dedicated to Veronika Dimoska’s, Zvonko Karanovic’s and Maja Rucevic Karanovic’s latest books at 7 pm and a final international poetry reading at 9 pm.
