Skopje, 9 June 2026 (MIA) — MIA’s journalist Slobodan Ivanov is one of the eight winners of the 2026 Messenger of the Marginalized (Гласник на невидливите) journalism award for excellence in reporting on social issues including poverty and disability. This is the second year in a row that Ivanov has won the prize.

Ivanov’s winning article covered an art exhibition by Tome Danevski that linked the Glagolitic script to modern social inclusion.

The other seven winners are Bojan Shashevski, Leni Frchkoska, Marta Stevkovska, Ljubica Ivanova, Magdalena Stojmanovikj Konstantinov, Mihail Miloshevski and Sunchica Stojanovska Zoksimovska.

Their awarded stories showcase topics ranging from discrimination against neurodivergent children in schools to limited access to affordable medication in the country.

The Messenger of the Marginalized award was established by the Macedonian Anti-Poverty Platform in 2018.

The award honors journalists whose sensitive reporting gives a voice to the marginalized, increasing awareness and understanding of people living with limited access to opportunities.

The award ceremony is scheduled for June 16 at CoWork 21 (formerly Cinema Vardar).

Thanking the reporters for their commitment to highlighting poverty issues, organizers said this year’s awards ceremony will also feature a panel discussion titled “Media and Poverty: Loud against Silence.”

Attendees will include guests from eight participating countries and the European Anti-Poverty Network’s communications team. mr/
