The national women’s handball dramatically qualified on Wednesday night to the semifinals of the World Championships in Denmark, after defeating the host team 31-30 (13-10, 27-27), at end-overtime, in Herning, in the quarterfinals. Adriana Nechita shot the victory goal, in the last second of the match, thus avoiding the shoot-out. Romania, led by a sensational Cristina Neagu (15 goals) was close to end victoriously during the regulatory time, yet the star of the Buducnost Podgorica missed a 7-metre throw in the last minute (60). The team, coached by Swedish Tomas Ryde has controlled the match from start to end, being led by the Danish team just once, 28-27, in the debut of the overtime (62). While Neagu has made the game in attack, the goal-keeper Paula Ungureanu has managed an excellent defensive game, ending in saddening the rd 12,000 spectators in the stands.
