Women handball: Romania wins bronze, after defeating Poland in Denmark’s World Championships

Romania’s women national handball team won the bronze medals on Sunday, in the World Championships of Denmark, in Herning, after defeating the Polish national, 31-22 (15-8), in the small finals of the competition.

Romania made a perfect match and left no chance to its opponent, leaving behind a shade of regret because it was so close to a finals’ qualification.

Romania ranked 10th in the previous edition of the WC in 2013 in Serbia. Romania, the single national team which participated in all WC editions, since 1957, has had in its showcase a gold medal (1962) and two silvers (1973, 2005), alongside the two outdoor world titles (1956, 1960).

Remarkably in the WC 2013, Romania was defeated in the round of sixteenth by Poland (coached by the same Kim Rasmussen of today), with 31-29 (13-17), in Novi Sad.

Romania’s performance in the Denmark’s World Championships was also underlined by the goal-getter title of the contest, assumed by Cristina Neagu, 63 goals. More…
