Nearly 3,000 employees of the Public Finances Regional Directorate of Ploiesti (DGRFP), covering seven of Romania’s 41 counties, went on a wildcat strike on Tuesday morning, union leader Aurel Fanica told AGERPRES.

According to him, they took their protest to the streets, disgruntled over a Government Order that left 23,000 tax administration employees out of the latest pay raises, which went only to the Tax Administration Agency (ANAF) managers and to the staff of the Ministry of Public Finance.
“We had no salary raise over the past five years, while all the other public officers got substantial raises this year,” Fanica asserted. He mentioned the tax collection performances of his colleagues, “praised by everybody”, while not a single leu was found to supplement their wages, as all the available funds were directed to ANAF leadership.
The Tax Administration work was disrupted in the counties of Arges, Calarasi, Dambovita, Giurgiu, Ialomita, Prahova and Teleorman, and protests are spreading across the country and supposed to continue until the relevant Government Order is modified, the union leader assured. More…
