Podgorica, (MINA) – Germany wants Montenegro to be a success story of the EU’s enlargement policy, said German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul during a meeting with Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajic.
According to the press release from the Government, Spajic discussed with Wadephul, who is visiting Podgorica as part of his first visit to the region, the progress that Montenegro is making on its European path and the priorities of bilateral cooperation.
It is stated that Spajic informed the German Foreign Minister about the government’s efforts to close all negotiation chapters by the end of next year.
“We are maintaining the pace of reforms, because we do not want any member state to have even the slightest reservation when making a decision on Montenegro”, said Spajic.
Wadephul, as reported, expressed full support for Montenegro’s European integration, stressing that Germany remains committed to the EU enlargment to the Western Balkans.
The Government stated that the meeting emphasized the importance of ensuring the independence of institutions, continuing the fight against organized crime and maintaining the pace of reform processes.
“During the meeting, the Prime Minister referred to the Government’s ambitious agenda for the coming period, emphasizing that in the year marking 20 years since the restoration of independence, Montenegro will preside over the Berlin Process, the Western Balkans Fund and host the EU-Western Balkans Summit”, the press release said.
The interlocutors also agreed that the political relations between Montenegro and Germany are very strong, forming a solid foundation for further economic cooperation.
