The upgrade of the Border Crossing Station at Kipi and the relocation and construction of a new one in Kastanies, at the Greek-Turkish borders of Evros, are projects of strategic importance and a priority of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the government, Dimitris Galamatis, Secretary of the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia-Thrace, said at Kipi on Thursday.

Galamatis said that the two projects “are already on track to being implemented” and committed to the continuing of the projects at current hihg-speed rates, while he would also highlight any problems arising.

A team to follow the progress has been set up at the Decentralized Macedonia-Thrace Administration, he noted, while he urged all local agencies to unite and bring the projects to fruition.

Several regional and local officials were at the meeting in Kipi, including customs and police officers.

The concession for the upgrade of the Kipi Border Station is budgeted at 13 million euros and was signed on July 8. 

The current Kastanies Border Crossing Station will be replaced with a new one that will house customs, police passport control, and passengers alone, not trade crossings. The masterplan for it is expected to be completed in September 2025 and the project will be assumed by the Eastern Macedonia-Thrace Region through a programming contract.
