Two Gold Olympic medalists in mountain biking Czech Jaroslav Kulhavy (Gold in London Olympics) and Norwegian Gunn-Rita Dahle-Flesjaa (Gold in Athens Olympics) will take part in Cyprus Sunshine Cup 2016 from 25 to 28 February.
It is the third consecutive year that Dahle-Flesjaa takes part in the Cypriot race while Kulhavy takes part for the last ten years, a press release says.
“The island is great for preparation, the weather is very good, the race excellent to put you in a racing spirit,” Kulhavy says, while Dahle-Flesjaa explains how she has found a “mountain bike paradise” and she has met “kind, hospitable and warm people.”
Cyprus Sunshine Cup celebrates in 2016, 20 years of history. The race will take part in the picturesque village of Lefkara in Larnaca District during the first two days and Lythrodontas village in Nicosia District in the other two. The race will conclude in Voroklini, in Larnaca District on March 6.
The Sunshine Cup is expected to attract more foreign bikers as 2016 is an Olympics year. It can mean gaining important points for those who have not yet qualified for Rio.
Among other bikers Italian Marco Fontana, who won the Bronze Medal in the London Olympics, Czech Ondrej Cink who came third in World Championship 2015) and German Manuel Fumic who came fourth in the Championship, as well as Yana Belomoyna who came first in the 2014 for women under 23.
