Theatre Union chair Caramitru asks Parliament committee not to cancel cultural stamp law

The chairman of the Theatre Union of Romania (UNITER), actor Ion Caramitru, rejected in the opening of the 18th edition of the Young Actor Gala – HOP, in the Black Sea resort of Costinesti the draft law forwarded by the SocDem MP Mihai Sturzu, which would cancel the cultural stamp law.

The actor, who is also director of the Bucharest National Theatre (TNB), mentioned that the project was under debate in the Senate’s Culture Committee with heads of other creation unions.

“You are the first audience of a quasi-historical moment, I’d say, because I’m coming from the Senate of Romania, from the Culture Committee, which has just debated with the presidents of the unions of creators the legislative initiative of a deputy, named Mihai Sturzu, who’s asking imperiously the annulment, the cancelation of the cultural stamp law, voted by Romania’s Parliament 21 years ago, on which the unions of creators live,” Caramitru on Tuesday night in the opening of the event.
