Romanian Horia Tecau and American Coco Vandeweghe qualified to the mixed doubles semifinals of the Australian Open on Wednesday, in Melbourne, by defeating 2nd-seeded Americans Bob Bryan/Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-3, 6-7 (5), 10-6.
Tecau and Vandeweghe won in 1h 28 min, with 36 winners (against 26) and 10 unforced errors (versus 7 of the Americans).
Their next opponents are Andreja Klepac (Slovenia)/Treat Huey (Philippines), winners by 6-2, 7-5 against 3rd-seeded Rohan Bopanna (India)/Yung-Jan Chan (Taiwan).
Last year, Tecau played in the mixed double alongside Czech Lucie Hradecka; they lost in the first round. In 2014, he was a finalist with Sania Mirza (India), and lost to Kristina Mladenovic (France)/Daniel Nestor (Canada).
