Tennis: Cristina Dinu, Alexandra Cadantu through to the second round of ITF Tournament in Ankara

Romanian tennis players Cristina Dinu and Alexandra Cadantu have qualified for the second round of the 50,000-dollar ITF tennis tournament in Ankara (Turkey).

Cristina Dinu (22 years old; WTA no. 233) defeated Georgian player Sofia Shapatava 6-4, 7-6 (8), the tournament’s No. 7 seed and recorded her first victory in front of Shapatava (26 years old, WTA no. 207). Shapatava had won their two previous meetings, 6-1, 6-3 in the first round of the 2013 25,000-dollar ITF tournament in Brescia, Italy, and 6-0, 6-2, at the 2014 50,000-dollar ITF tournament in Olomouc, Czech Republic.

In the third round Dinu will face Slovakia’s Michaela Honcova (22 years old, WTA no. 469) who won their only previous meeting in the first round of the 25,000-dollar ITF tournament in Andrezieux-Boutheon, France, 6-0, 7-5.

Cadantu (25 years old, WTA no. 266) defeated Turkey’s Basak Eraydin (21 years old, WTA no. 267), 7-6 (6) 6-3 in the first round and will face Poland’s Paula Kania (23 years old, WTA 153), the tournament’s 4th seed. Cadantu won their only previous meeting 6-4, 6-4 in the qualifying rounds of the 2013 WTA tournament in Marrakech, Morocco.

Sorana Cirstea (25 years old, 241 WTA) lost in two sets, 6-1, 6-1 to the tournament’s 5th seed, Turkey’s Ipek Soylu, Mihaela Buzarnescu lost to Russia’s Marina Melnikova, 6-2, 6-2, and qualifier Oana Georgeta Simion lost to Russian player Natalia Vihlianteva, 6-3, 6-3. More…
