SportsMin Szabo, Prince Nicholas at ceremonial start of Danube Delta Rally

Sports and Youth Minister Gabriela Szabo and Prince Nicholas of Romania participated on Thursday night in the ceremonial start of the 15th Danube Delta Rally in downtown Tulcea.

“I came to Tulcea, like I use to go among children and sports fans, as a guarantee of my attention to their effort, of my support for their wins. They must feel our presence and appreciation, I have to thank them for getting involved and telling them they are a model for those standing by today who could be in the race tomorrow,” Szabo declared to AGERPRES.

Prince Nicholas had tried the role of co-drive in a track learning race with driver Simone Tempestini on Thursday afternoon. He said it was his first participation in a competition, but not his first high-speed race, as he loves motorsports and uses to watch them on TV “because they are full of energy.”

During the opening ceremony, the organizers presented the Prince with a trophy in recognition of his support to the competition in Tulcea.

Vali Porcisteanu, 2011 national rally champion, called the start. Pop singer Corina assisted him, after her concert that — according to the Gendarmerie — gathered a 2,000 audience in Tulcea’s Civic Square. More…
