Spiropali meets with Prime Minister Jeliazkov on her visit to Bulgaria: Support for EU membership 

TIRANA, July 9  /ATA/ At the invitation of Nataliya Kiselova, Speaker of the Bulgarian Parliament, Elisa Spiropali, Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, will conduct an official visit to Bulgaria on July 9–10. During her visit, she is scheduled to meet with Bulgaria’s highest-ranking officials: President Rumen Radev, Prime Minister Rosen Jeliazkov, and Parliament Speaker Nataliya Kiselova. 

On the first day of the visit, Spiropali was received by Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov. 

Spiropali emphasized that “we maintain excellent bilateral relations with Bulgaria at all levels, based on traditional friendship and the historical, cultural, and human ties between our two peoples.” 

Spiropali stated that Bulgaria remains a firm advocate for Albania’s integration into the European Union, just as it has been a strong supporter of Albania’s NATO membership, with both countries today serving as significant partners and active contributors. 

She further highlighted that hosting the 6th Summit of the European Political Community in Tirana on May 16 represents a milestone in Albania’s increasing dedication to security and peace across Europe. 

Spiropali stated that Bulgaria has long been a key economic partner for Albania, with many opportunities for collaboration in areas like infrastructure, tourism, energy, and other sectors that drive development, connectivity, and regional integration. She highlighted that the development of Corridor VIII is a crucial joint strategic project, vital for fostering cooperation between Albania and Bulgaria, as well as for the wider region. 

She further emphasized that maintaining good neighborly relations is at the core of Albania’s foreign policy, and that both countries are actively working to strengthen cooperation among the nations in the region. 

Prime Minister Jeliazkov praised the relations, partnership, and friendship between the two countries and reaffirmed Bulgaria’s strong support for Albania’s membership in the European Union, as well as their cooperation on peace and security in the region and beyond.
