Skopje, 18 August 2026 (MIA) — Sixty Macedonian and Slavic language scholars from 17 countries will attend the summer school of Ss. Cyril and Methodius University’s 59th International Seminar on Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture, which begins Thursday in Ohrid.
Addressing the seminar’s opening ceremony will be Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska, state university dean Biljana Angelova and seminar director Kristina Nikolovska.
At the event, Janevska and state lottery representatives will be given certificates of recognition and Canadian scholar Christina Kramer will receive an award for promoting the Macedonian language.
This year’s seminar participants include scholars from Albania, Argentina, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, France, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey and the US.
The summer school will offer Macedonian language classes and a translation workshop as well as lectures on Macedonian literature and culture.
Participants will also attend a course on Macedonian folk dances and several book launches. They will visit the Old Town of Ohrid and go on an academic field trip, as well.
After the summer school ends, scholars will take part in the seminar’s 53th International Scholarly Conference at Ohrid’s Congress Center. Its 135 attendees include 75 researchers, alongside this year’s lecturers and students. mr/
