SARAJEVO, September 23 (FENA) – Without significant investments in the production and distribution of electricity, Bosnia and Herzegovina risks becoming an importer of necessary amounts of this energy source in the future, it was warned today at the opening of the 2nd Sarajevo Energy and Climate Week (SECW).
Nihad Harbaš, CEO of nLogic Advisory, the technical organizer of SECW, emphasized the need to invest in the rational use of energy, as current users in Bosnia and Herzegovina consume up to five times more than the EU average.
“The Sarajevo Energy and Climate Week provides a crucial platform for discussion, planning, and making concrete decisions and steps toward carbon neutrality, decarbonization, and a fair energy transition. We expect this year’s panels to result in significant progress in implementing plans and concrete actions,” said Harbaš.
Professor Mustafa Musić from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Sarajevo noted that the main topic will be the integration of renewable energy sources into distribution networks, as such sources produce much less energy than thermal power plants of the same capacity.
He stressed the need to increase the capacity of distribution networks to obtain the same amount of energy from existing sources, which will require additional investments.
Mirsad Jašarspahić, president of the Chamber of Commerce of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, stated that SECW represents a unique opportunity for key stakeholders, decision-makers, and project leaders to initiate important dialogue about the energy future and European integration in one place.
This year, SECW has brought together a wide range of companies, institutions, and individuals from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region, the EU, the broader European area, and the Middle East. About 1,000 participants are expected to attend the conference over the five days.
