San Marino reiterates solidarity with Cyprus

San Marino`s Foreign Minister Pasquale Valentini has expressed solidarity and support to the Republic of Cyprus in its efforts to reunite the country, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.

This position was conveyed during the presentation of credentials of Cyprus` Ambassador to San Marino, Tasos Tzioni to the governors of San Marino, Gian Franco Terenzi and Guerrino Zanotti as the country`s new Ambassador, based in Rome.

Valentini expressed solidarity and support to efforts by the Republic of Cyprus to end the island’s division, pointing out that at international fora and especially at the Council of Europe, San Marino has always acted in favour of Cyprus, an official press release said.

Presenting his credentials, Tzioni praised the friendly relations between the two countries. He expressed Cyprus` gratitude to San Marino for its firm support at international organisations, noting that Cyprus, for more than 40 years, has been suffering the consequences of the Turkish invasion and continuing military occupation.

During his meeting with San Marino`s Foreign Minister, Tzioni and Valentini reviewed bilateral relations and agreed to undertake further initiatives to strengthen and upgrade them.
