Romanian fencer Anca Saveanu on Tuesday won the bronze medal in the women’s foil individual event of the European Fencing Championships U17 in Novi Sad, Serbia.
In the semi-finals, Saveanu lost to Italy’s Arianna Pappone, 11-10, according to a post on the website of the Romanian Fencing Federation, after she defeated Viktoria Kralikova (Slovakia), 15-14, in the first round, Stepanka Nemkova (Czech Republic), 15-6, in the second round. She went on to defeat British Yasmin Campbell, 15-13 and in the quarter-finals she beat Hungary’s Nora Hajas, 8-7.
In the final, Italian Serena Rossini defeated her fellow fencer Arianna Pappone, 3-4.
Romania’s Raluca Vacarasu came in 38th, Raluca Draghici was 52nd, and Rebeca Candescu 56th.
In the cadet men’s individual event, Romanian Adam Macska was 9th, Mihai Bigea 39th, David Biro 49th and Alex Oroian 67th.
Saveanu thus won the second medal for Romania, after another bronze medal Silviu Rosu won on Monday in the cadet men’s individual foil event. More…
