Acting Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Toiu and her Serbian counterpart Marko Duric discussed on August 4 the current situation caused by the exceptionally low water levels and the impact of the reduced flow of the Danube on nuclear power generation.

“In the past year, we have frequently discussed this topic, given the priority that both countries accord to joint energy production projects, as well as future plans that depend on the Danube’s flow, both with regard to the future reactors 3 and 4 and Serbia’s objectives, for which we recently signed the memorandum on the exchange of analyses and impact data,” the Romanian top diplomat mentioned on X.

The two officials also discussed the possibilities for a coordinated action of the two countries to mitigate the consequences on the navigation, the economy and the operation of river traffic, as well as the need for rapid coordination and the exchange of relevant information among all countries bordering the Danube which are directly affected by the situation.
