Romania’s U-19 rugby team will meet Spain in the final of the 2015 European U-19 Rugby Championship in Portugal, after defeating Portugal’s team 15-12 (8-9) in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
The Small Oaks managed to eke out a win toward the end of the match at the Jamor Stadium of Lisbon, after being led both at half time and in the second half.
Romania scored a try in the first three minutes thanks to loosehead Ciprian Lucaci. Portugal curtailed the difference by a penalty executed by Abecasis, but Romania’s Melinte (min. 23) brought back the difference also from a penalty (3-8). Portugal reversed the score before half time thanks to two more successful penalties by the same Abecasis, with the score after the first half standing a 9-8.
Romania tried to bounce back, but another penalty by Abecasiss (51) kept Portugal in the lead. More…
