Restoring peace in Mideast and N. Africa the key to the refugee crisis, says Cypriot MP

The key to resolving the refugee crisis lies primarily in restoring peace and security in the Middle East and North Africa, as well as strengthening humanitarian aid and working for the gradual reconstruction of Syria, said Cypriot MP Marios Garoyian, addressing the 133rd Assembly of the IPU on Migration.

A press release issued on Wednesday by the Cyprus House says that it is important to demonstrate solidarity in practical terms towards the countries that are affected the most, pointing out that there must be equal distribution of burden through a migration mechanism, the revision of the Dublin Regulation, and the creation of partnerships between countries of origin, transit and destination.

Garoyian said that it is obvious that Europe risks entering a destabilized future, with the unprecedented refugee crisis, adding that “we can turn this huge challenge into an opportunity to build a multicultural world, based on tolerance and solidarity restoring and consolidating peace and prosperity for all.”
