The number of registered unemployed decreased by 12.7% in August, compared to the same month a year ago, the Statistical Service of Cyprus said on Monday.
“The unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of August 2016, reached 35.786 persons. Based on the seasonally adjusted data that shows the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for August 2016 decreased to 37.244 persons in comparison to 37.262 in the previous month” the Service said.
“In comparison with August 2015, a decrease of 5.202 persons or 12.7% was recorded” it added.
The decrease, said the Statistical Service, was mainly observed in the sectors of construction (a decrease of 1.262 unemployed persons), manufacturing (a decrease of 743), trade (a decrease of 694), accommodation and food service activities (a decrease of 583), public administration (a decrease of 523), transportation (a decrease of 497) and to newcomers in the labour market (a decrease of 733).
