TIRANA, July 31 /ATA/ -By Maela Marini/ Corridor 8 is another major project that is advanced as part of partnership between Albania and North Macedonia.
This is what Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Monday at the Qafë Thana border point, where the new border program “One stop – One check” between Albania and North Macedonia comes into effect today.
Speaking about Corridor 8, Rama said that that time is ripe for this very old dream to come true.
“On both sides of the border work is running apace on the ground for the construction of this Corridor. We have two construction sites in operation and are close to opening two more construction sites, because the construction of Corridor 8 is divided into 4 parts,” the Prime Minister said.
According to him, many efforts have been made to revive this project as part of the former Egnatia road in the past and as part of the European infrastructure network.
“It was very challenging and we finally succeeded at the Tirana Summit between the Western Balkans and the EU. This gives us another boost but also another important source of support from the EU. For this reason, a few days ago there was a summit in Italy with the foreign ministers of Italy, Albania, North Macedonia and Bulgaria,” he added.
