The Deputy Governor of the Romanian National Bank, Liviu Voinea, is the proposal of the Social Democrats for the vacant seat of prime minister, said the leader of the ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD), Liviu Dragnea, on Monday, at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace.
“We thought of who the person we will propose will be and we came up with Mr. Liviu Voinea, who fulfills both the integrity criteria, as well as the expertise criteria, who enjoys the credibility of important financial institutions, who has experience in this domain,” said Dragnea.
He added that he has discussed on Monday with the National Bank of Romania (BNR) Governor, Mugur Isarescu, who gave assurances that if Mr. Voinea were to be nominated, he would have full institutional support.
“I want to say that I had a discussion today with the BNR Governor who assured me that, if Mr. Liviu Voinea were to be nominated, he would have the full institutional support of the BNR and the associated expertise. A Prime Minister and a Government with a limited mandate, a very clear and precise mandate and one to ensure that the two electoral ballots [of next year], the local and parliamentary ballots, take place in the correct conditions, so that Romania sees no incidents in regards to the two processes,” Dragnea mentioned.
