Presidential adviser Orban: More than 1,000 refugees are expected in Romania in November

The first immigrants Romania has pledged to take over upon the request of the European Union are expected in the country in November, Leonard Orban, adviser on European policies to President Klaus Iohannis, told Europa FM private radio broadcaster on Tuesday.

He said that little over 1,700 refugees will arrive in Romania, but they will come in stages to six reception centres available and they will be checked. The ones who do not have a right to asylum will not be allowed to stay in Romania, said Orban.

“The six centres where the immigrants will go are located in Bucharest City, Giurgiu, Galati, Somcuta Mare, Radauti and Timisoara. The immigrants will get water, food, housing and consular assistance, with Romania to receive 6,000 euros for each person from the EU. The centres operate as open access centres,” Orban explained.
