Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades said Monday that during today`s meeting with Mustafa Akici in the framework of the UN-led talks for a Cyprus solution, they reviewed all the progress progress so far, in order to create conditions for comprehensive convergences.
“We have registered where there are convergences and where there are divergences, so that we can then focus at an intensive pace on the creation of the conditions, to the extent possible, that will allow us to talk about comprehensive convergences,” the President said answering to journalists` questions on his meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader.
He noted, however, that this is premature because there are also problems, “which are not of the kind that can be considered easily solvable”.
He reiterated at the same time his determination to work intensively and with good will, so as soon as possible to find a mutually acceptable agreement by both communities, on the basis of the recognized rights of every European citizen and every Cypriot citizen
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. UN-led talks, aiming to reunite the island under a federal roof, resumed on May 15, this year.
