President Iohannis: Romania is supporting the establishment of an energy union

Romania is supporting the establishment of a European union of energy, President Klaus Iohannis said Thursday in Bucharest upon leaving for Brussels to take part in a the spring summit meeting of the European Council.

“Romania is supporting the establishment of a union of energy propped up by the five dimensions suggested by the European Commission — energy security, an internal energy market, energy efficiency, environmental protection as well as research, innovation and competitiveness in the area. By our reckonings the establishment of an energy union will bring important advantages to the member states. The priorities that should be kept in mind are the creation of a genuine internal energy market, improving efficiency in capitalising on indigenous energy resources, diversifying energy supply sources and routes as well as developing an infrastructure that allows better connection among the European Union member states,” said Iohannis.
