President Anastasiades in Israel and Ramallah to meet Netanyahu and Abbas

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades is currently in Israel, where he will hold meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

The President arrived in Tel Aviv on Thursday, after the informal summit in Malta on the refugee crisis, accompanied by Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides.

On Friday, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Kasoulides is expected to join them, having wrapped up his official trip to Amman, Jordan.

President Anastasiades will be meeting Netanyahu on Friday, followed by talks with the participation of their delegations.

Talks are expected to focus on energy matters, especially joint exploitation of deposits and developments after the discovery of Egyptian deposits.

Later on Friday, President Anastasiades and his delegation will travel to Ramallah to meet with Abbas.

According to CNA sources, the meetings in Jerusalem and Ramallah will focus on President Anastasiades` initiative for separate invitations to the two sides to attend the European Council.

Furthermore, the Cypriot side is expected to convey messages to and from either side, in an effort to create conditions which would allow for the return to the peace talks.

President Anastasiades will be returning to Cyprus on Saturday.
