President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades departs for Brussels on Wednesday morning to take part in the European Council summit and the European People`s Party summit, that will be held on December 15.
Anastasiades will meet Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Wednesday afternoon in the presence of the foreign ministers of the two countries. The two leaders will discuss the Cyprus problem.
During the two summits, the President will hold separate meetings with European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker and President of the European Council Donald Tusk.
At the two summits on Thursday, President Anastasiades will brief the heads of states or government on the latest developments in the Cyprus issue.
The European Council will discuss the most pressing issues, including migration, security, economy and youth, and external relations.
On migration, the leaders will look at the implementation of the EU-Turkey Statement and discuss the reform of the Common European Asylum System, and how to apply the principles of responsibility and solidarity in the future while on security, the EC will reaffirm its commitment to the European Union Internal Security Strategy. It will also address the strengthening of EU cooperation on external security and defence. The leaders will also take stock of progress as regards the conflict in Syria and the Brexit process.
