President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades, in Davos to participate in the 45th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum, is expected to hold meetings, on the sidelines of the Forum, with heads of state and government to brief them on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem.
It was announced today that President Anastasiades held a meeting in Davos with CEO of Italian energy company ENI, Claudio Descalzi. The consortium ENI/KOGAS has been awarded exploration licence in Cyprus` EEZ, namely in Blocks 2,3 and 9. ENI completed 2 seismic surveys, and is planning to drill 6 wells in the coming 18 months.
A record number of participants will attend the 45th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland. Around 40 heads of state and government will attend the Forum, among them the German Chancellor, the French President, the Turkish Prime Minister, the US Secretary of State, the Prime Minister of Italy, the President of Egypt, the President of Ukraine, the Prime Minister of Iraq, the Minister of Finance of India etc.
In addition there will be 1,500 business leaders from over 100 countries. Academia will be strongly represented this year with, among others, 14 Nobel Laureates participating. In total, the Forum has invited over 800 participants from the public sector and civil society.
Private sector participants in Davos will be representing more than 20 industries, with media and information taking the top spot, followed by banking and capital markets as well as professional services.
The theme of this year’s Forum is “The New Global Context”.
Turkey, whose troops occupy Cyprus’ northern part since they invaded in 1974, does not recognize the Republic of Cyprus, in spite of numerous calls by the EU, which Ankara aspires to join, to do so and normalise relations with Nicosia.
