Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reviewed his presence and meetings in New York in his weekly social media update. As the Greek Premier pointed out, “ the common thread was the recognition of Greece as a force for stability in Southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean, as an attractive investment destination, and as a bridge connecting the wider region, geopolitically and in terms of energy, with the rest of Europe. As a reliable partner.”
Mitsotakis noted that “ Greece’s voice is heard loudly” and emphasised Greece’s upgrading defence arsenal. He also mentioned that, during his address at the United Nations, he advocated for the lifting of Türkiye’s casus belli. Referring to the war in Ukraine, he any rejected border changes, and, he called for an end to the war in Gaza and the formation of a Palestinian state.
In his post, the Prime Minister also referred to Panos Routsis’ hunger strike, stating that “ the state must stand with empathy for people who are suffering, even when they question it.”
He emphasised that the government respects the decisions made by the independent judiciary-regardless of their nature-without offering any commentary on them.
He further underlined that matters falling exclusively within the competence of the judiciary, such as this particular case and the adjudication of the broader tragedy that has deeply affected us all, must be left entirely to Justice. Mitsotakis also warned that “ new perpetual delays may even lead to the statute of limitations for offences, which would be the ultimate disrespect for the memory of the victims.”
Finally, the Greek Premier reviewed recent government initiatives in education, health, and public order.
