Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday that more than 1.8 million people are employed in Croatia, while around 60,000 are unemployed, meaning that for every 30 working citizens, only one is without a job.

We have never had such a ratio, and we can express satisfaction with these labour market indicators, Plenković said, referring to data previously released by the Ministry of Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy.

In its statement, the ministry cited the latest data from the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute (HZMO) from 29 June, showing 1,800,461 insured persons, while 59,000 people are currently registered as unemployed. The unemployment rate in April stood at 3.8%.

The ministry said this is the highest number of insured persons in the past 35 years, since Croatia’s independence.

It added that the figure of over 1.8 million insured persons shows that government policies are delivering tangible results.

Plenković said the data marked a record level of employment and reflected strong labour market dynamics and economic activity.

He added that Croatia currently has nearly 60,000 more insured persons than two years ago.

The ministry also noted that continuous economic growth has been recorded for 21 consecutive quarters, contributing to record employment and one of the lowest unemployment rates in modern Croatian history.

It said the number of insured persons has increased by more than 300,000 since 2016, while unemployment has fallen by nearly 200,000, and the average net salary reached 1,555 in March this year, significantly higher than a decade ago.
