The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said that Adem Jashari and his entire family fell on the altar of freedom, becoming the permanent guardian of Kosovo. She emphasized that March is the month engraved in the archives of the nation’s struggle for freedom. This is what she said at the solemn session in honor of the 26th anniversary of the KLA Epopee.
The head of state emphasized that the KLA Epopee determined the fate of the people of Kosovo, as she emphasized that it was an epopee of dignity, pride, and freedom.
“March is the month engraved in the archives of our nation’s fight for freedom, a month when the indomitable spirit of Adem Jashari and the KLA gave impetus to the war against the genocidal regime of Milosevic. Therefore, ‘March comes again’ is no longer just a song, it is the motto of our memory and honor of the fight for freedom and independence which is undoubtedly identified with the main character of our war, the legendary commander Adem Jashari, his family, and the entire Kosovo Liberation Army. On the 16th anniversary of our country’s Independence, the KLA Epopee marks its 26th anniversary. On March 5, 6, and 7 of 1998, Shaban Jashari, Adem, Hamez, and all the members of the Jashari family showed unparalleled heroism and sacrifice by protecting the threshold of their home”, she said.
The threshold of the Jashari family’s house, Osmani added, symbolized Kosovo itself. She said that in the face of tyranny and injustice, Adem Jashari personifies courage and unwavering commitment to freedom.
“He (Ademi) and his whole family refused to surrender themselves, so they fought for the dignity and freedom of all of Kosovo. Our leader, Adem Jashari, fell on the altar of freedom together with his family members, thus becoming a permanent guardian of Kosovo, a permanent guardian of our blood-soaked freedom. They led the battle for freedom, therefore, for the stoicism, dedication and heroism demonstrated, we owe the legendary commander and his family, and every fighter, veteran and invalid of the KLA, eternal gratitude. Heroes are the guides of our country’s journey; therefore, we will honor their memory by preserving and cultivating the values for which they fought and fell”, she said.
Osmani added that the houses of the Jashari family are full of life, while she added that the strengthening of the state and protecting the life of every citizen should continue.
