Only 1 in 5 workers in Croatia satisfied with pay, half consider job change – survey

ZAGREB, 19 May (Hina) – Only a fifth of workers in Croatia are satisfied with their salary, while nearly half are seriously considering changing jobs in the next six months, according to the results of a survey published on Monday by the MojPosao portal.

The survey is part of an international study on salary satisfaction conducted via the Paylab platform. It was carried out in February and March by Alma Career, a company operating in the employment sector in Central and Eastern Europe, known in Croatia under the MojPosao brand.

The survey included nearly 15,000 respondents from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, North Macedonia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia.

The results showed that 27% of the survey participants are satisfied with their current salary, while 56% feel underpaid, said Jozef Plško, director of public relations and communications at Alma Career Group.

This feeling is more pronounced among respondents in the Baltic and Balkan countries, while participants from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Estonia show a slightly higher level of satisfaction, he added.

He also said 77% of respondents were considering changing jobs within the next six months, with the willingness to change jobs particularly high in Balkan countries, where it reaches up to 90%.

21% of respondents in Croatia are satisfied with their current salary

The results showed that 21% of respondents from Croatia are satisfied with their current salary, with 2% being completely satisfied and 19% mostly satisfied.

Forty-one percent of Croatian workers are dissatisfied with the amount they earn, with 16% extremely dissatisfied and 25%В mostly dissatisfied.

Thirty-eight percent of respondents said they were “neither satisfied nor dissatisfied”.

When looking at salary satisfaction by gender, the survey showed that women are, on average, less satisfied with their income than men – 24% of women said they were satisfied with their salary, compared to 30% of men.

Fifty-six percent of respondents from all countries said they felt underpaid, an increase of 3% compared to 2023.

Twenty-one percent of respondents believe their current salary is proportional to the work they do, a decrease of 5% compared to last year.

89% of Croatians are considering changing jobs

In Croatia, 65% of employees believe their salary is too low in relation to their job responsibilities and contribution to the organisation, while 17%В believe their earnings are “reasonable” and in line with their engagement.

Thirty-eight percent of workers in Croatia said they would be satisfied with a pay rise of 11–20%, 37% said it would take an increase of 21–50% for them to feel satisfied, 16% would be content with a 6–10% pay rise, while only 3%В would want to double their income.

When asked whether they planned to look for a new, better-paid job in the next six months, 89% of Croatian respondents answered yes – 45% are seriously considering a change and 44% said it was a possibility. Only 11% of respondents said they definitely would not look for a new job.

Across all nine countries covered by the survey, 77% of respondents are considering changing jobs.
