Podgorica, (MINA) – Niksic has been selected as the 2030 European Capital of Culture by the decision announced by the European Commission jury at a ceremony held at the House of European History in Brussels, following the final presentation in which Niksic and Ukrainian Lviv competed.
Minister of Culture and Media Tamara Vujovic said that this is an exceptional recognition for Montenegrin culture, creativity and the European values that it nurtures, but also for local strength.
Vujovic congratulated the citizens of Niksic and all of Montenegro on what she described as a historic success.
“Today, Niksic has become a symbol of success, unity and cultural maturity of Montenegro. The title of European Capital of Culture confirms that our cultural potential, identity and creativity can stand side by side with the best in Europe”, Vujovic said.
Vujovic underscored that the Ministry of Culture and Media, together with the local administration and partners from the country and abroad, will work committedly on the program implementation that will position Niksic as a European hub of contemporary creativity, cultural cooperation and innovation.
The Ministry of Culture and Media thanked everyone who contributed to this success, the application drafting team, artists, cultural institutions, the civil sector and international partners.
