President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades has announced a series of new infrastructure and development projects worth 64 million euro for the city and the district of Larnaka.
The President, who chaired today a meeting with organized groups of Larnaka District, said the projects include inter alia the construction of new elementary schools and medical centres, the construction of a municipal traditional market, a multicultural and athletic centre, improvement works on main roads, works for the protection of the beaches, construction of flood barriers, improvement works for the Larnaka Fishing Shelter, and other projects in the framework of the Solid Waste Management program.
He recalled that since he assumed office in 2013 a series of projects worth 36.5 million euro have been completed, while other development projects, which began before or during 2015, worth 70 million euro, are under way.
The President also said that the oil and gas storage facilities will be moved from Larnaka by the end of 2017.
He stressed that the government remains firmly committed to the development of the port and the marina of Larnaka so that it includes facilities that serve the tourist and commercial needs of the port and lead to the construction of an ultra modern marina.
In addition, he announced the decision of the Council of Ministers to use an area in Larnaka to house some faculties of the University of Cyprus and to create a national park.
