The negotiators of the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot sides, Andreas Mavroyiannis and Ozdil Nami respectively, are meeting on Thursday ahead of Tuesday’s meeting between the leaders of the two communities.
The negotiators will also meet on Friday to prepare next week’s meeting between Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci.
According to CNA sources, negotiations on almost all issues relating to the Cyprus problem continue at a steady pace.
On Thursday afternoon, at a special closed session, Mavroyiannis and Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides will brief the delegates attending the 18th World Conference of Overseas Cypriots on the latest developments in the Cyprus issue. The conference concludes today.
Moreover, this morning, President Anastasiades will meet with the President of the House of Representatives Yiannakis Omirou whom he will brief on the Cyprus issue.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. The leaders of the two communities have been engaged in UN-backed talks since mid May with the aim to reunite the island under a federal roof.
