Nae Caranfil’s “Closer to the Moon” rewarded with UCIN Grand Prix and Trophy

Nae Caranfil’s mix of drama and surrealistic comedy “Closer to the Moon” won the Grand Prix and the Trophy of the Romanian Filmmakers Union (UCIN) for 2014 at the gala organized Wednesday night at the Studio film theatre in Bucharest.

Nae Caranfil and his film were actually the big winners of the evening, sweeping away six awards out of eight nominations. Apart from the Grand Prix, “Closer to the Moon” also won Best Director and Best Screenplay, plus Best Art Direction — through Cristian Niculescu, Best Film Editing — Catalin Cristutiu, and Best Cinematography — Marius Panduru.

“Quod Erat Demonstrandum” directed by Andrei Gruzsniczki, nominated at nine categories, won three awards: Best Actor — Sorin Leoveanu for the role of Sorin Parvu; Best Costumes — Svetlana Mihailescu; and Best Makeup — Miruna Panaitescu, Dana Angelescu and Adelina Popa. More…
