Morphou residents hand over resolution demanding return to their homeland

A delegation of the Turkish-occupied town of Morphou will hand over on Monday a resolution to the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, the Representation of the European Commission, the Presidential Palace and the President of the Cyprus House, asking for the return of refugees to their homes and properties.

The delegation comprises Charalambos Pittas, the Mayor of Morphou, as well as members of the city`s Municipal Council and cultural and athletic organizations.

The residents of Morphou call for the withdrawal of Turkish troops and settlers, the safeguarding of the fundamental freedoms, establishing the fate of all missing people and the restoration of human rights for all legitimate inhabitants of Cyprus.

August 16 marks the 41st anniversary since the city and the area of Morphou was occupied by advancing Turkish troops, that had invaded the Republic of Cyprus almost a month earlier, on July 20, 1974.
