More than half citizenships by investment granted to individuals of Russian origin

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – A total of 2,070 citizenships by investment were granted in Montenegro between 1 January 2019 and 10 June 2024, a period for which the Civic Education Centre (CGO) has data.

According to a press release issued by this NGO, more than half of these citizenships were granted to individuals of Russian origin.

“In the top ten most common countries of origin of applicants, apart from Russia, are China with 190, the United States (USA) with 107, Ukraine with 59, Vietnam with 49, Lebanon with 45, Belarus with 43, South Africa with 40, Turkiye with 39, and Egypt with 38,” stated the press release.

An additional 363 applicants come from 63 other different countries, with the majority coming from Asian and African countries, while CGO has no data on the origin for 63 new citizens.

“Under the Citizenship by Investment Programme, Montenegrin citizenship has so far not been granted to anyone from the continents of South America or Antarctica,” the CGO stated.
