Majority of citizens have no trust in institutional integrity and politicians in fight against corruption
Podgorica, (MINA) – Over 75 per cent of citizens believe that Montenegrin society is corrupt, while the judicial system is perceived as the most corrupt, according to an opinion poll conducted by the Center for Civic Education (CGO).
According to the press release from this NGO, the survey was carried out between November 20 to 29, with the expert support of the Damar Institute, on a random sample of 1,000 adult respondents.
Zvezdana Kovac of this NGO stated that the lack of public trust in the integrity of institutions and politicians in the fight against corruption was particularly concerning.
“Negative evaluations of the work of the judicial system indicate the need for urgent reforms in the judiciary in order to restore public confidence in this critical pillar of society”, said Kovac.
According to her, high levels of corruption in healthcare, education, security and local administration remind of the necessity to strengthen internal control and sanction those responsible for abuses.
The survey demonstrated that 75.3 per cent of the respondents consider Montenegrin society to be corrupt, while the system is perceived as the main culprit for this by 23.9 per cent of respondents, politicians by 23.6 per cent, and the judiciary and police by 15.3 per cent each.
