State Secretary for European Affairs with Romania’s Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) George Ciamba on Wednesday attended a plenary session of the 8th meeting of the Global Forum on Migration and Development hosted by Istanbul, October 14-16, informs a MAE statement sent to AGERPRES.
Ciamba is quoted in the MAE press statement as underscoring the importance of migration having been included in the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, also supported by Romania, “in recognition of an increasingly stronger link between migration and development.”
“The Romanian official underscored the need for coordinated and comprehensive responses worldwide that will aim to solve the deep-going causes of migration in the home countries, with emphasis on economic, social and educational measures in the home countries, as well as on crisis management, post-conflict stabilisation and the fight against illegal migration. From this perspective, he pointed to a substantial contribution of numerous instruments of development policies in the unfolding of the process,” says MAE.
Mentioning the importance of the humanitarian dimension in the management of refugee issues, Ciamba highlighted Romania’s positive answer to the calls of the world community to provide additional humanitarian funds by contributing more to international programmes (World Food Programme and UNHCR), as well as to bilateral programmes (with Jordan and Serbia).
